This important field of Medicine covers the diagnosis, investigations and treatment of all allergy and inflammatory diseases ( especially Bronchitis, Asthma, Naso Bronchial Allergies) Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease ( COPD ) which is often related to smoking, pollution and repeated Respiratory infections. In these Airway Obstructive diseases, Pulmonary Functions tests are usually required to assess the airway function and the airway reactivity. Chest and Sinus Radiology is often helps and so is sometimes the level of IgE antibodies in the blood.

Lung Infections, be it viral like COVID-19, H1N1 Pneumonia or other rare viral Pneumonias like Bird Flu, SARS-COV or MERS cause severe Pneumonias. Bacterial Pneumonia are also common.

Fungal Pneumonia are often seen in immune- compromised patients, especially post-organ transplant.

Tuberculosis is a common disease in India, and its commonest presentation is infection in the lungs. Radiology and sputum examinations or culture often

suffices but sometimes Bronchoscopy may be required to confirm the diagnosis.

Interstitial lung disease ( ILD ) and Lung Fibrosis is another set of diseases on the rise worldwide and need to be diagnosed and treated early before they cause irreversible damage and scarring in the lungs.

Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous disease which often gets confused with Tuberculosis. We usually do Endobronchial Ultrasound ( EBUS ) guided Lymph Node Aspiration ( FNA ) to prove the diagnosis after a careful analysis of contrast-enhanced CT scan of the chest.

Lung cancer, like all other cancers in the human body, has been on the rise in the past few decades. If diagnosed early, their treatment is more effective, at times curative giving many more fruitful years of life to the cancer victims. We help to pick the disease first, do the necessary workup of imaging studies and Biopsies to achieve this early goal for effective early treatment.
